Q: Is it safe to travel alone on Jeju Island? I don't speak Korean, will I struggle to get aground?
A: Korea, and of course Jeju Island, is a pretty safe country to travel if you are a female solo traveler. There are, however, not many people on the road or village town after 8 pm, especially in the rural areas. Therefore, you'd better stay inside at night time. Even during the daytime, if you walk alone on Jeju Olle Trail or a forest path, you might be in the middle of nowhere. If possible, you'd better have at least one or more travel buddies. In the case of Jeju Olle Trail, Jeju Olle Foundation. annually puts out a free buddy walking program where the volunteers walk with the tourists. If you get out of city area, you may have trouble communicating in English. However, simple communications could be possible, as Koreans are very helpful (though they might be a little shy to speak English). Intercity buses are equipped with signboards showing the bus stops in English and Chinese.
