From the Host

I don’t know why but I didn’t want to leave here after just a few days of traveling. It was right after coming back from a long journey to Australia and New Zealand, which I took in order to enjoy my freedom after having resigned from a 10 year career. I promise you, you will fall in love with Jeju and meet the happy ‘you’ once you come visit the Island. And if you are a person who likes to mingle with others, love to travel, and want to share your travel stories, please come to “Story in Jeju” guest house.

Make your own jeju story at “Story in Jeju”!

‘Story in Jeju’. Just as the name suggests, the host wishes all guests who stay here can go back home with their own precious story to tell.
The host, a single man in his late 30s, who has an affable and gentle look about him, has left his mark on every aspect of the guest house, from the basement party area to the guestrooms, to the exterior of the house. While he doesn't have a background in architecture, the host drew up a draft design of what he felt the house should be like in order to make guests feel comfortable and relaxed, even if only staying for a night. All the designs showcase a modern and contemporary style. His 10 years as a hotelier at a famous resort in Jeollanam-do, and frequent trips to Australia and New Zealand, helped him understand what was needed in the initial design concept of the guest house.

“I experienced many different guesthouses while traveling Australia or New Zealand, and found so much discomfort. Dorm rooms with bunk beds were too small to do something on the floor, bunk beds often made a rusty sound when I twisted or turned while sleeping, and the mattresses were often too thin to get a good night's sleep at some guesthouses.”

You will not find such discomfort at “Story in Jeju” guest house. Even the 10 person dormitory room with 5 bunk beds is surprisingly roomy and pleasant. Bunk beds and private lockers, which are the only furniture in the guest room, were also chosen after much consideration. The space at the lower part of the bunk is big enough to store large baggage. Not only is the furniture at “Story in Jeju” comfortable and homey, the mattresses for the beds are also 20cm thick to ensure a good night’s sleep. The bath facilities and toilets are also in the guestroom.
If there is one thing you might miss in the room, it could be a privacy curtain on the bed.

“Shouldn’t the guests in the same room at least say hello to each other? If they bury themselves in their own small space closing the privacy curtain, could they feel the ‘real taste’ of travelling?”
He hopes all guests mingle with each other at least, as they sleep together in the same space even for just one night.
That is also why he remodeled the large basement into the guest party room that can hold up to 60 people, even though there are two more spaces that all the guests can share.

There will be a night party almost every night in the party room (2 or more guests’ request needed), and it is a great opportunity to meet traveling buddies and enjoy Jeju travel culture.
