T-Money Card (Transportation Card)

  • 1. What is T-money?

T-money is a transportation card as well as a device used to pay for taxi fares and, in some cases, transactions at convenience stores. The T-money function is often added onto various payment (credit/debit) and discount travel cards. T-money can be used on public buses and subways in several different metropolitan cities and locations including Jeju Island, Seoul City, Gyeonggi-do, Daejeon City, Incheon City, Daegu City and Busan City. When using T-money, the public transportation fare is 50 won cheaper than paying with cash on Jeju Island, and, unlike cash fares, T-money can be used when transferring from one bus to another, one subway line to another, or from bus to subway or vice versa (within a transfer time limit) at no extra charge.

  • 2. Benefits of T-money?

Transfer discounts are applied on all kinds of buses on Jeju Island only when using T-money. For instance, when transferring while traveling within a 10㎞ distance, if you use T-money, then the transfer is free. This is a much better deal than using cash, as you would have to pay the base fare each time you transfer. You can transfer a maximum of 2 times within 40 minutes per ride of the card’s initial scan. In order to get a transfer discount or a free transfer, after first tapping on the card reader located next to the driver as you board, you need to tap your card again on the reader located at the rear exit (in some cases, at the front exit next to the driver), when getting off the bus.
